Explore La Crosse is excited to announce that the 2024 Trolley Tour and Experience tickets are on sale now, online only, for all tours offered. There are a total of four different tours, all new experiences, and incredible history will be shared.
Dark La Crosse Experience
June – September | 5:00-7:00pm
Join us for an experience focusing on La Crosse’s macabre past. Your narrator will guide you down a dark path through the red light district, small-town politics gone wrong, hot tempers, cold-blooded murders and grisly events. Includes a step-off at the Pump House Regional Arts Center, a private performance in the theater, and refreshments.
Historic Tour- This is La Crosse
June – September | 10:00am-1:30pm
This tour experience covers the length and breadth of the city with step-offs at the Heritage Center Museum and the historic Hixon House, along with a visit to the north side which includes a wine-tasting at DnA Vintners, a sampling of food from The Damn Tasty, and a surprise treat from a Northside landmark!
*This tour starts as a walking tour from Explore La Crosse to the Heritage Center. The walk is 2 blocks from Explore La Crosse, mostly flat along Main Street. The Trolley will be available for transportation to the Heritage Center if needed.
Architectural Tours- Mansions & Memories:
June – September | 9:30am-12:00pm
“Mansions and Memories: A Look at La Crosse’s Most Significant Homes, and the Stories Behind Them.”
The tour as it is laid out will take 2.5 hours, and will have two step-offs — one at Hixon House (with coffee and morning pastries, and restrooms) and the other at the Castle La Crosse. The tour at Hixon House will include a 25-minute ground floor tour, followed by refreshments in the Visitors Center and time to wander around the gardens. Both step-off properties are not accessible. The balance of the time is spent aboard the trolley, driving around the downtown area and sharing information on significant and unusually interesting homes.

Bluff to Bluff Experience
September & October | 2:00-6:00pm
This 4 hour tour starts at Explore La Crosse, 123 7th street South, La Crosse. You will then travel through historic downtown La Crosse before venturing up into the bluffs of the La Crosse Region. As you descend through the Coulee Region and cross the mighty Mississippi River into Minnesota be prepared to expand your knowledge of the Apple Capital’s history in La Crescent, MN. As your experience comes to an end, a final stop at Le Chateau will provide nibbles to tantalize your taste buds.
