So, what’s your story? How long have you been here in the Driftless, Were you born in the Driftless, What keeps you here in the Driftless?
I was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Wisconsin in 1988. My sister had moved to WI early 1988 when she met, who was then her fiancé. He unfortunately died in a freak car accident. I was married out of High School and my husband was violent and I needed to get away. My sister asked me to come here, she said I would love it and I could live with her until I was able to get on my feet. I moved in Dec of 1988 and never looked back!
I love Madison Wisconsin and have had so many experiences that I otherwise would not have had. The people are quite different. The beauty in this state is amazing! I like to just take drives sometimes to take it all in! My friends, children, beauty keep me here and of course my job.
Tell us about what you do for work or your business.
Well I work full time for the University of Wisconsin. I do accounting. I also run my own DJ/Photo Booth Business. I absolutely love both of them! I especially love my weddings and DJ events. I have been able to touch hundreds of thousands of people’s lives and make them happy, if only for a few hours. I have a passion of wanting to share my
happiness with the world!
Tell us about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career with your business.
Taking the leap with new equipment such as my Photo Booth and 3D laser. I am able to do so many things with the laser, and my photo booth props are the best around! No one even comes close to having the phenomenal props that I have. I hold a perfect 5.0 on all platforms due to my DJ/Photo Booth abilities!
We’re constantly making things better, faster, smarter or less expensive. We leverage technology or improve processes. In other words, we strive to do more—with less. Tell me about a recent project or problem that you made better, faster, smarter, more efficient, or less expensive.
Well I offer complete packages for my couples/events that give waaaaay more than any competitor and at a much lesser rate. I believe that everyone deserves to have the best and doesn’t have to get outrageous in price. People come to me when others wouldn’t touch them…pretty sad…
Tell us about some of the people you’ve met, that stand apart from the rest, while here at your business or workplace.
I have worked with so many great people along the way. I have always learned to give your all, do your best and good things will happen. Invest your time into yourself and your business, treat others as you want to be treated and be willing to help others. I always listen to words of wisdom from anyone who offers advice. I have met people who excel because of their ability to have fun, respect everyone, listen to their client’s requests and work together to make everyone happy.
Tell us about someone who has influenced your decisions for yourself or your business.
I met a gentleman at a conference in Vegas who also runs a DJ business in another state. He sends inspirational advice, new techniques, and is one of the most caring people I know. He always tells me how to put my best foot forward and to “LISTEN” to what your client wants. If I get stuck with anything, I could contact him at any time, and he always has a solution!
What do you think will change about your business or business process over the next five years?
Well at some point I will have to retire my business as I am getting older, but until then, I will always add more functionality, new music, better equipment and lighting, better pricing…and the list goes on!
What do you wish other people knew about you or your business?
How amazing it is!!! I offer waaay more for my price than ANYONE! I will meet one on one with my client to make sure their event is everything and more than they want. And that they are getting the best DJ and photo booth around!
If you were to tell a friend to come and visit the Driftless Area, and they ask “Why” … what would you tell them?
I would tell them to come to here to absorb all the beauty, diversity and limitless activities. It is like a whole different world here!
If you weren’t here running your business, what would you be doing instead, or what would your life be like?
Singing, dancing, spending more time with my children and grandchildren. I would just have to find more ways to help people…maybe serve in a food kitchen, help United Way in some way. My life would still be fulfilling as I would have to find another way to help others.
How do you develop yourself outside of your work environment? Personal development can take all shapes and sizes. It can be found in a hobby, a purposeful pursuit, or in an appetite to explore.
I read a lot, listen to other’s stories, and educate myself on some of my other intrests.
What are some of your favorite places to go and have fun here in the Driftless?
I like to go to Devils Head near the Wisconsin Dells area. It is beautiful and that was one of me and my husband’s second date activities…..we walked all the way around it….took 5 hours and I did it with a fractured foot!! I also like Menomonie. Itt has a lot of trees and lakes…just love the beauty…
What might our readers be surprised to know about you?
That I am 55 and still going strong!!! That I am dealing with cancer again, Stage IV Breast Cancer that has metastasized to my bones, mostly my spine, but still living every day to the fullest! If I wake up, it is a great day, and that I will continue to DJ and make people sing and dance until I absolutely cannot.
What are you most curious about in life?
If the cure for cancer is really out there but that they do not give it to us because there is no money in curing people.
What is the most courageous thing you have done in your life?
I was raped at 17 and gave my son up for adoption. The most beautiful part of that is that my son and I were reunited 3 years ago and he is the most amazing man, husband and father. He and his parents have been part of my life ever since! He thanks me every day for giving him life!
