*Surprisingly Weird – Incredibly Entertaining – Winona, MN

Built on the banks of the Mississippi River, Winona, Minnesota is a town that will surprise you. Ask any Winonan how they’d describe Winona and you’re likely to hear, “We’ve got everything from canoeing and mountain biking to Fortune 500 companies to nationally ranked colleges, plus Shakespeare and Monet.” It’s surprisingly weird, which just happens to be one of our taglines. We’re home to manufacturing companies of international acclaim, renowned education institutions, world-class art, and natural beauty that’s hard to beat. From the bluffs to the backwaters, Winonans have made the most of this island that we call home.

Winona is a town with rich traditions of entrepreneurs starting small, building on innovations and products that fill local needs, and then sharing their goods globally. Now, for the first time in nearly a century, Winona is focusing back where everything started—downtown.

Major companies are building new spaces, residents are looking to downtown as a place to live, and small businesses owners know that downtown is the place that they want to be. In addition, we are embracing the outdoors and putting a new focus on outdoor recreation like never before. There is an enthusiasm for the future that is apparent, and that future is bright.
