This Valentine’s Day, I’m taking a moment to highlight an exceptional business and an incredible person who has become a true friend. Tony Angelini isn’t just the owner of two outstanding Driftless Area businesses; he’s a man who’s made a lasting impact on my life with his advice, support, and unwavering kindness during some of my toughest times. For that, I’ll always be grateful.
The Journey of Tony Angelini
Tony’s story is one of grit, determination, and doing things his way – a sentiment that would make even Frank Sinatra proud. Born in Italy, Tony came to the United States as a young boy, moving with his family to Chicago, IL in search of a better life. The streets of Chicago weren’t always kind to an immigrant family with limited English, but those challenges shaped Tony into the strong, outspoken, and resilient man he is today.
Years later, love brought Tony to Sparta, Wisconsin, and eventually to the Driftless Area, where he found solace in the clean surroundings and the promise of opportunity. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a successful Italian restaurant in Sparta before setting his sights on Onalaska. It was here, overlooking beautiful Lake Onalaska, that Angelini’s Italian Restaurant found its home – a place where tradition meets excellence.
Tony’s entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop at Angelini’s. Recently, he expanded with Gino’s Chicago Beef and Hot Dogs in La Crosse, sharing the same building as Angelini’s to bring a taste of his Chicago roots to the Driftless Area. With authentic Italian beef, Chicago-style hot dogs, and the irresistible addition of hot giardiniera peppers, Gino’s offers a casual yet flavorful dining experience. If you’re craving bold flavors and classic Chicago-style fare, this is the spot to visit.
Friendship Beyond Business
Over the years, Tony’s guidance and friendship have meant the world to me. He’s a man who tells it like it is, yet always with a heart full of encouragement. Whether sharing advice or simply being there to listen, Tony has been a steady presence through life’s ups and downs. His wisdom and generosity reflect the values that make his businesses thrive: loyalty, hard work, and an uncompromising commitment to excellence.
Tony and I share a love of boxing, and his philosophy often reminds me of an important life lesson: it’s not how many times you get knocked down but how many times you get back up and keep fighting. Tony’s no-nonsense approach to life and business is reflected in everything he does.
While Angelini’s and Gino’s are shining stars in the Driftless Area, Tony makes them extraordinary. He’s the kind of person who gives respect where respect is earned, and he expects the same in return. As Tony would say, “This isn’t Burger King; you don’t always get it your way here.” But for those who appreciate excellence, Angelini’s is a place where every detail, every dish, and every experience reflects the highest standards.
The Angelini’s Experience
Step into Angelini’s, and you’ll feel Tony’s passion for every aspect of the business. From the Rat Pack-inspired décor to the tantalizing aroma of freshly made dishes, the restaurant is a love letter to Italian culture and cuisine. Everything is made in-house from scratch, whether you’re indulging in perfectly crafted pizza, handmade pasta, or succulent seafood. Pair your meal with a glass of wine or an expertly mixed old-fashioned, and you’re in for an unforgettable dining experience.
The ambiance is warm and inviting, with Italian music setting the tone for an evening of connection and celebration. As Tony would say, “Perfection and respect” are the standards here – not just for the food, but for the entire experience. Reservations are always recommended and needed ahead of time on special days like Valentine’s Day, but the experience is well worth the planning.
