Their flagship Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Syrup, made in collaboration with Central Waters Brewing Company, highlights culinary and cocktail uses <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">of maple syrup. They are again expanding the world for maple, this time creating a product to fuel the <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">outdoor adventuring that is so central to their lives. People thought we were bee keepers, or grew Christmas trees. And spelling out our <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">website was always a challenge. Embark embodies the hope and excitement at the center of our <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">business.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Although the product is new, the idea is one that has been on the back burner for over a decade. &#8220;I&#8217;ve <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">been bringing maple on my multi-sport adventures for years,&#8221; says Weninger. &#8220;Now as more Americans <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">are turning to the outdoors for recreation, as well as physical and mental health, the time seemed right to <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">create a product to share the good energy we find in our forest as people explore the places they find <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">renewal.&#8221; The team has been honing the product for the past two years, with input from a panel <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">including endurance athletes and outdoor chefs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-10270 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/driftlessareamag.com\/unicdn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Maple-Syrup-Hits-the-Trails-With-the-Launch-of-Embark-Maple-Pic-3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/driftlessareamag.com\/unicdn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Maple-Syrup-Hits-the-Trails-With-the-Launch-of-Embark-Maple-Pic-3.png 401w, https:\/\/driftlessareamag.com\/unicdn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Maple-Syrup-Hits-the-Trails-With-the-Launch-of-Embark-Maple-Pic-3-300x153.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/>Supply chain disruptions delayed the launch of Embark. The team tested rugged pouches with the goal <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">of durable, adventure-ready packs. At some point along the line a durability layer of the material was <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">omitted, leaving the team with 65,000 pouches of Maple Energy that were not up to their standards. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Rather than waste them, the team hit the road, using the light-duty packs to support racers at cycling <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">events throughout the upper Midwest. This experience brought the team great feedback and the support <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">of a broad range of athletes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A true testament of the product came from the Arrowhead 135, a 135 mile winter cycle, ski and foot race <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">in northern Minnesota. With temps dropping to -30, racers fought through the elements, buoyed on by <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Embark Maple Energy.
